Whoever thinks about science loves it, and whoever
loves it never stops learning,
even if outwardly they seem idle

8 September is International Literacy Day, observed within the United Nations system. It was established by UNESCO in 1966 with the aim of promoting the importance of education as a guarantee of the sustainable development of any state and of ensuring human dignity and human rights.
At Odesa Technical Professional College of ONTU, this holiday is marked with a series of events. With the aim of developing a culture of speech and communication, forming thoughts competently, developing speech and increasing interest in reading, M. M. Burundukova organised and held a language and literature hour on 6 September with students of group 1RP-11. The lecturer motivated the students to reflect on the power of the word, the ability to form a thought and compliance with the ethical norms of communication. The students expressed their thoughts on literacy in the life of every person and on the importance of education for self-realisation and career growth. They recalled the role of dictionaries, faithful helpers in the process of developing literacy. Practical and creative tasks were an interesting moment: students recalled aphorisms about education, wrote down proverbs and sayings, explaining their meaning and the spelling of the words, and quoted lines of poetry about language. We wish the students to raise the level and quality of their knowledge systematically, to grow intellectually, and to enrich themselves through reading and communicating in Ukrainian.
