The world through different eyes: how Autism Awareness Day went

Did you know that autism is not a disease but a different “code” of perceiving reality? On 2 April, World Autism Awareness Day, on the initiative of lecturers of the Subject Committee for Physics and Mathematics Kachan T. V. and Zadorin V. V., an online meeting with students and lecturers of the college, “Invisible Differences: What We (Don't) Know About Autism”, was held to make this world easier to understand.

The main speaker of the event was Olha Zadorina, a young woman who combines theoretical knowledge with international practical experience. Olha is a third-year student at Ushynsky University (specialty “Special Education (Speech Therapy)”) and a certified IBP-I ABA therapist (Prague).

Thanks to her professional approach, under the supervision of Mamatova Z. R., Senior Lecturer of the Department of Special and Inclusive Education, the speaker managed to explain complex matters in simple language:

Genetics vs. Myths: why autism is a biological trait, not the result of upbringing or vaccination.

Neurotypical test: those present tried to “put themselves in the shoes” of people with ASD, which helped every participant feel the importance of inclusion and empathy.

International experience: the speaker shared modern approaches to therapy and support used in European practice.

It was wonderful to see so many participants dressed in blue! It was a powerful visual show of support for the community of people with autism.

“Autism is about a different way of thinking, and our task is to learn to hear this voice,” Olha noted during the meeting.

We thank everyone for their activity and sincerity. Together, we continue to break down barriers!
