Tutor Hour for Safer Internet Day

Today in group 2KS-61, a tutor hour for Safer Internet Day was held by the group tutor Anastasiia Kryvchenko.

The topic of the session – “Digital Security and Self-Protection in the World of Information Technology” – proved to be extremely relevant for the students, because every day they leave a digital footprint on social networks, in messengers, on educational platforms and even when shopping online.

A digital footprint is all the information we leave about ourselves on the internet. Photos, comments, likes, search history, even the time of connecting to Wi-Fi – all of this shapes our image in the digital world. And it is important to remember: the internet “never forgets anything”.

Practical life hacks that the students discussed today:

- Manage your digital footprint: before posting, think about whether you would want lecturers, employers or future colleagues to see it.

- Check your privacy settings: restrict access to personal photos and contacts.

- Delete old accounts and unneeded apps that may collect your data.

- Use a VPN when working on open Wi-Fi networks to hide your activity.

- Do not overshare: avoid posting documents, photos of student ID cards or card details.

- Build a positive digital reputation: take care over what you write and share, because it may affect your career.

- Regularly check yourself in a Google search: see what others can see about you and, if necessary, clean up unwanted content.

The tutor hour was not only a reminder of the dangers but also a practical training session: the students of group 2KS-61 received concrete tools for protecting themselves and their data.

TOP 7 Digital Security Rules for Students

Use strong passwords and store them in a password manager.

Enable two-step authentication on all accounts.

Check privacy settings on social networks.

Use a VPN on open Wi-Fi.

Delete old accounts and unneeded apps – they collect your data.

Build a positive digital footprint: post only what will not harm your reputation.

Be careful with online purchases and with messages about “winnings” or “urgent payments”.

Remember: your digital footprint shapes your future career and reputation. The internet never forgets anything, so it is worth being attentive to every step online.
